€29.6M gross investment return in 2015

The Kosovo Pension Savings Trust (KPST) closed another year with a positive performance of invested assets. Gross return on investments in 2015, primarily from investments in the global financial markets, was 29.6 million Euros. As a result  the share price reached 1.3171 Euros, or up 2.27% for the year.

The investment performance can be considered as positive, taking into account a variety of challenges and crisis faced by the financial markets during the year. The difficulties of economic growth in China, as an important economic zone in the international trade; the increase of political tensions between the West and Russia and the shrinking of capital movement and trade due to economic sanctions; closure of the US monetary quantitative easing program and the steep decrease of the oil price, as the main source of economic development of numerous countries, were the main factors that inhibited further improvement of the financial markets and discouraged the investors.

Key facts

In the end of 2015, the net assets that KPST had under its management were 1.23 billion Euros, marking  an increase of 141.6 million Euros compared to the 2014 year-end. There was improvement also in the collected contributions, which reached the amount of 137.5 million (2014: 128.8 million Euros). In addition, the number of active contributors continued to increase and reached 297,303 contributors (2014: 295,914); while the number of contributors having pension savings accounts since inception reached 507,771 (2014: 476,560).

Moreover, the amount of pensions disbursed for 2015 reached 19.2 million Euros (2014: 14.3 million Euros) and the number of pensioners 4,610 (2014: 4,049).
